Shepherd, King, Poet Step 1 of 4
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV)

The prophet Samuel was sent to anoint the next king of Israel from among Jesse's sons. Seven impressive older brothers were passed over. God chose the youngest — David, a shepherd boy tending sheep in the fields — because God evaluates by the heart, not by appearances.
